GENESIS THOROUGHBREDS is a racing club like no other. We’re not motivated by track days out or even trips to the winners enclosure – we are the winners enclosure. Steered by Noel Hayes, this exclusively profit-driven coalition of like-minded discerning industry forces is steadfastly driven by its core strategy: Purchase, Perform, Sell. In Genesis Thoroughbreds’ commercial ownership model, each horse must fit into a plan that can make money, otherwise they exit the stable.
Our central objective is to buy young horses (Flat yearlings or National Hunt stores), get them to perform and show promise, then sell them into the lucrative secondary market. Many of the more affluent owners prefer to pay for proven quality instead of buying several un-raced horses in the search for their top-class steed. Our objective is to meet their desires.
For Genesis Thoroughbreds, success is not measured by crystal trophies or photo opportunities, rather it’s counted in euros, pounds and guineas. This is achieved through a collaborative approach whereby we work closely with trainers, bloodstock agents and other select industry professionals who share our goals. From Noel Hayes’ own background in the commercial banking and bookmaking sectors, he understands risk better than most, so all of Genesis Thoroughbreds’ commercial transactions are also strongly reliant on voluminous horse racing databases compiled assiduously throughout his career.
After completing his MSc in Finance and Capital Markets, Noel worked in corporate banking with AIB before a whirlwind three years with Paddy Power as it transformed from retail bookmaker to online behemoth. He then led Boylesports Online for two years, followed by a two-year stint as Commercial Director of Tote Ireland. More recently, he was Director of Sportsbook with BetBright before leaving to pursue personal business interests.
Horses have been Noel’s passion since he was a child and he bought his first thoroughbred at the age of 15 with savings from a summer job. His deep understanding of racing, bloodstock and betting are heavily informed by his painstaking data analysis, but he has a renowned eye for spotting value at the sales too.
He also puts his success down to enthusiastic collaboration with similarly driven industry experts, believing that it’s by challenging each other’s thoughts and opinions that the best decisions – and therefore, best outcomes – are delivered. His horses have previously run under multiple names, but he has consolidated his exciting portfolio under the Genesis Thoroughbreds banner.
Noel has been lucky to have been involved in many great success stories with a common theme – an exit for profit. The two most famous were Our Conor who won the Triumph Hurdle at the 2013 Cheltenham Festival by 15 lengths and Now Or Never who was sold after providing the legendary Kieren Fallon with his last Group winner in the 1,000 Guineas trial before going on to finish 3rd in the 1,000 Guineas at The Curragh in 2016. Others successful equine adventures have included Letters Of Note, Moral High Ground, Night Of Glory, Sebastian Bach, Veneer Of Charm, London Icon, Sunday Sovereign, Sunday Sweet, Clutchingatstraws, RapidApplause and Bowtogreatness to name but a few.
